Boss BR 1600

Just wondering if anyone has experience of these?

I was gradually building up to starting some recording. I have a Universe PBK through an AVT 150 combo. My plan was to add a Boss GT6 to this and then buy a separate recording unit to use with the GT6 alongside my Powerbook G4 using Reason (I really love that program!!!)

Then I noticed that the BR1600 contains the workings of the GT6 amongst its arsenal. A couple of questions though, does any footswitch exist for the BR1600 to allow expression and quick patch switching? Can the BR1600 effectively be used like the GT6, through the amp?

Many thanks for any help.

OK, update, I bought the GT6 anyway!

But I think i still want a BR1600. Has anyone got experience of this or its predecessors? Are they a good starter studio and is it easy enough to connect a computer to them, or vice versa, at a later stage?

I can't stand the standalones, compared to a computer. But to each their own.

I had a BR8 for 2 years, and it was nice until I tried out computer-based recording. Now I'll never go back.

yeah I still prefer computer setup to stand alones...but I do LOVE my BR1180 CD. It's easy and reliable. Mixing and mastering couldn't be any easier. But I HATE the built in guitar sounds in there....well mostly the lead sounds. The cleans, acoustic, and bass sounds are pretty good. The sounds are very tweakable....which can be a good or bad thing (bad for me cuz I'm really impatient..lol). I usually use my POD or mic my Laney amps for my sounds....and it works great

Sucks tho...like with most stand alones...you can't really see what your playing for cutting and pasting like u can on a pooter. Punching in and out can be a real bitch. But everything else is great.

Oh yeah...I never tried hooking it with my computer...lol...sowwie

BR1600 and DFH

Can the internal drum machine work with a sample library like Drumkit From Hell? I've seen in the product ads it says something like "use the internal sounds or load your own". I'm not talking about importing loops, just using DFH sounds for each BR pad.

Re: Boss BR 1600

I have one, here is my take on it, considering im a guitar and bass player.
First of all the sound quality is top notch as you'd expect form an expensive machine.
Its got multiple inputs aswell as 8 at one time which is handy for a band.
The effects are great but when compared to a mic'd up amp they dont compare.
I tend to run a Marshall through it on the distorted channel through it and use effects such as chorus, delay and subtle effects rather than use the built in amp sims.
The built in drums sound great but i would recommend buying a Dr rhythm for drums as its more user friendly.
Overall its a top notch piece of kit and when combined with other gear such as a PC or sequencer or synth, could be a very powerful tool given its CD writing facility.

Re: Boss BR 1600

they should be close in power and features. the biggest advantage of the 1600 over the 1200 is really the amount of inputs and faders you get. i'm still learning about the 1600. very nice sounds and features. i've barely tapped what it is capable of but it sounds great.
the BR900CD is on my list this year of new gear for - very powerful and yet still compact.
