Building a new DAW

Hi all

I've just decided I'm going to build my self a new dedicated DAW and have started specing it out! I've decided stability is my main goal and im goina run XP with no anti virus, all unnessecary operations killed etc (this is only going to be for audio). I've decided im going Intel for stability reasons (its sad but true we still live in a Win-tel world). Im goina run 2 western digital raptor sata 10000Rpm Hdds for recording onto (raid 0)with a 250 gig ide drive as a dump. 2 gigs of ram, and probably an M Audio delta 66 sound card.

My dilema is what mother board and chipset to go with. Any suggestions on that, or anything else for that matter would be much apreciated!

Cheers

Al M

If you're looking at the delta 66, go for the omni studio (have to get one second hand). A definate must for a mixerless system.

You can do better than M-Audio...

Dish out a few bucks more and you'll be happier.

Re: Building a new DAW

i've got an athlon 64 3000 at around like 2.5 ghz with a delta 1010lt card. it smokes, but i also use a behringer mx3282a for the preamps and the buss'ing. i also am using sonar 3 with 2 behringer bcf-2000 motorized faders(having driver issues right now). but i totally intend on another bcf-2000 and 2 more delta 1010 cards for 24 tracks of unadulterated track power. i may have to bump up my ram from my 1 gig to 2 or 4.

the athlon 64 is super fast, but i'm not sure what you wanna do as far a intel, tho.

For audio work the intel wintel thing is more stable, otherwise i have always been an AMD fan also i dont see the point in an athlon 64 atm seeing as there isnt a good 64bit OS at the moment.

just preparing for the xp64 os, and sonar 4 is supposed to be 64 bit supported so tryint o get a jump on it. the chipset was not much more in price than a hopped up 32, so i decided on the 64. it is mad superfast, tho. almost no bootup time and very little lag. my machine is semi dedicated. more for audio, but occasional surfing and other stuff. i could easily game with it, but thats not my purpose with pc's. i have a ps2 and xbox for that.
