Cakewalk Fruity Loops... Anyone?

Anyone use it?

http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/Fru...ps/default.asp

Here's the link. I have the opportunity to pick it up on the cheap, and am curious as to whether it's worth it..

Thx..

I have the demo of Fruity Loops 3, I like it, it's kinda cool. Haven't had a practical use for it yet though.

The singer/songwriter in my band used FruityLoops extensively to record a whole CD of stuff last year. You can hear a few tracks at http://mp3.com/organical

I saw it in action the other night, and it looked pretty cool to me. It's good for assembling bed tracks with drum, bass and synth loops.

That's what I use.www.mp3.com/Mechanistic Although the drum samples I use I got off of a Korg drum machine.
If you do get it I would buy the downloadable version off of the Fruity Loops website so you can get free upgrades for life. It seems like they update it about every 3 months.

sonic foundry's acid pro 3 is head and shoulders above fruity loops and by far the best in that type of audio software until you move up to cubase vst32 or even up to nuendo. if i were you, id save up for acid 3 -- not to mention all the great loops you get with acid.

...only difference is Fruity Loops isn't actually loop based.

I also use Acid (free version, but it's cool) for fun. It's very cool also. I'm still getting a feel for Fruity Loops though.

I really hope Cakewalk considers porting some of their stuff to the Mac. They're really dominating the home/project studio space with some really amazing products.

Wow Darren, Organical is pretty good! That's somewhat like the music I'm
working on!

I downloaded all the MP3s available, and have added them to my MP3
jukebox! I think I might pick up their CD when I can afford it!

What's the Mac "standard"? I have a dedicated cakewalk/etc PC right now, but recently picked up a dual processor G4 for short change from a company that went under. It's going in my jamspace, and I'd like to get your input on what the best setup is..

Digidesign's Digi 001 and Digi 002 systems both look really cool, but are a bit more pricey (but they do include hardware) and Digidesign's systems tend to be more closed and proprietary. They do scale nicely to full-blown ProTools rigs, though, so if you start off in your home studio with a Digi system and ProTools LE, you can take your project to a full ProTools studio very easily, or so i'm told.

I don't think there really is one right now. The low to midrange of the Mac audio market has been neglected for some time now. Steinberg's Cubase and Emagic Logic probably have equal numbers of dedicated users. There are lots of VST plugins and instruments available for both.

One big question, though, is developers' support for Mac OS X. Apparently 10.2 is the big release many developers have been waiting for, because it irons out a few kinks in the OS and really cements the core audio stuff in place. OS X has the lowest audio latency of any OS out there, and i expect we'll start seeing a lot more apps coming out for it in the next few months.

Propellerheads' Reason just came out for Mac OS X, which is really promising from the soft synth side, and Logic 5.2 is coming out for OS X in the next month or so... this is looking like the direction i'll likely go in, because Apple bought Emagic, and will likely turn Logic into even more of a kick-ass program.

Fruity

I got Fruityloops with my Cakewalk software. Its pretty easy and can work well, but it has serious limitations. Its ok unless you want to be able to change tempo and time sigs. If you need to do these its pretty useless. I found myself having to change the songs to fit the Drums!Someone then told me about sequbeat.Works much better for what I need and is still simple to program.I think sequbeat (sequebeat?) was a 25$ download. All the tunes atwww.onlinerock.com/musicians/westfallwere done with Fruity axcept for Trax.

Acid Pro 4 is coming out soon, with support for odd time sigs and a bunch of other cool features.

I can't wait, I'll definitely be buying it.
