Complete nubie to studio work... in need of tips...

In the nxt month I'll be going into the studio with my band, Tingods:

What I want to know is,

What sort of gear should I take... ie. multi-effects or my nromal setup...
Does anybody have any tips on making the process easier/quicker
How should I practice leading up to it???
When someone says recording 'dry' and adding effects later does that include distortion as well?? will I have wasted my time comming upo with a decent tone with my amp/DS-1???

Take your normal setup. Don't worry about echo, reverb, etc. - they'll add that later.

KNOW the material like the back of your hand. Aim to get everything in one take. Even if it takes several, it's much easier (& cheaper) the more familiar you are.

No, dry only means no delay based stuff. Get "the perfect fuzz" yourself. If you really dig an analog chorus or something before the amp, that's probably cool, too.

Try and have an idea how to mike up your cabs. The studio folks should have experience with this. Expect to have to wait a couple of hours for the drums to get sorted, mikewise. This time is well spent though-don't get too impatient-if the drum tracks get sorted early it is easier to do overdubs etc ie going back to re-record a rhythm track is nigh on impossible.

The last time I went to a studio, I used a POD, and it took 2 minutes to get a useable sound. Maybe not the best tone in the world... but time is big money and in my 6 piece band, I didn;t warrant more than the aforementioned 2 minutes!
