Computer drums vs. Boss Dr-880

My Dr-880 IMO is awesome. But can you get better drum tracks using computer software? And is it more difficult?

it gets frustrating doing drums on the pc. it's slow and hard work. It'd be easier if you had a drum trigger machine, you could use your fingers to play the drums...

Re: Computer drums vs. Boss Dr-880

If better to you means more realistic sounding drums, then drum software is the way to go, and if you can play some basic stuff with some kind of trigger kit, tracking drums is easier this way. You can capture the dynamics of your playing without having to try to program these (it can take a lot of time programming).

Ez drummer, DFH Superior, addictive drums are some high end drum software to look into if you want to go this route.

You'll need a MIDI keyboard, or some kind of trigger kit, or electronic drumset...

Drum software is more expensive, but worth it.

I remember having my Boss Dr. 550 thinking it was the best sounding drums, now i have DFH superior and any drum machine doesnt come close to it.....it truly does sound very real, at least to me it does.

What you are asking is strictly a matter of opinion and you will get a ton of differnt answers. I've used all sorts of software since the days of Impulse Trakker and stand alone drum machines. Personally I like having actual hardware to work with much better than using software. Either way you are using sampled drum sounds taken from actual drum hits.

Although I did find using software easier for programming.

OK so what would I need exactly if I wanted to go with EZ Drummer? Also< I need to know if my computer is fast enough to run it (i'm at work right now so I don't have the specs, but its like a 2004 eMachines). I heard the samples on toontrack.com and I haven't even used my Dr-880 since.

Damn!.... just wrote about a chapter and a half reply, that the server lost in transit . .

I've got both . . dr-880 and ezdrummer.

I'd be only too happy to re-explain all the differences (both are good). but i gotta go to work right now.

If you want to email me, i'd be happy to explain further, but i gotta go

Would have been not bad if lost as the question was asked 3 years ago. I reckon by now he has it all programmed
