Cubase and Vista

Don't know if anyone will know this, being a guitar forum, but people here seem friendly and helpful, so you never know.

Right, here goes. Just got an alesis multimix usb, which comes with cubase. I have used it fine on my eMac (great huge thing that it is) and I also have cubase on a new laptop that was recently bought, so I can do work in a more portable space, as the eMac is the family computer, not to mention really heavy.

When I plugged the mixer into the laptop, all was going well, I got it into cubase, and got some sound coming through, with a lot of latency (about a second) as the default settings are a large sound buffer. I turned the buffers down a tiny bit, and lowered the sound quality, as I wanted to find the lowest I could go for latency, and Cubase then says "audio engine could not be started" followed by two more messages saying no sound in or out. No obvious clue to why, and I can't get into the settings to have a look, because I just get the same message. I was wondering if this is anything to do with the fact im using vista

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Welcome to Jemsite!

I'm intersted in hearing a response to this as well. I have a new laptop with Vista Premium and hope to get some computer based recording set up thru it before long.

Re: Cubase and Vista

Kind of sorted it with a workaround. Got a vista compatible asio driver (asio4all). Seems to work, if anyone else has similar problems, try it

I think you need some starting fluid for your audio engine.

Apparently several companies that sell recording software or interfaces are having trouble with Vista. They are all pointing people toward the "asiof4all" driver.

Re: Cubase and Vista

Are you running CubaseLE? If so, CubaseLE doesn't work with Vista. In fact, it's a ****ing nightmare. If you want to use Cubase with Vista, you have to use the full version of Cubase, not the LE version, which is basically the light version.

Re: Cubase and Vista

Having the same problem with cool edit pro 2, adobe audition 2, and Fl studio 6, using my zoom g9.2tt as an audio usb interface.

I used the same zoom and software but with xp before and everything was great(Using an older laptop with amd sempron 1.6ghz 512mb ram)

Now switched to a new one with amd athlon x2 1.73 ghz 2 gigs ram, and having trouble using the same software and audio interface, so it is vista!

I have asio4all as zoom havent released vista asio drivers for the pedal, but asio4all doesnt works that great

drivers support hardware, what you are meaning to say is a patch.. the TS should google and for people having similar problems. make sure all drivers are updated from the manufacturers website. What are the specs for the laptop you are running.. how long has it been since you have reformatted it? Did it crash before you adjusted the configuration

Re: Cubase and Vista

For the people referring to crashes and other issues with Vista, it's probably because your software isn't compatible with Vista. CubaseLE drove me crazy for about two weeks, then as soon as I installed Sonar Home Studio 6 (which IS compatible with Vista), everything worked perfectly.

Vista is a total bitch if your stuff doesn't support it.
