Cubase- Converting midi to audio...

I've constructed a drum riff using cubase's midi editors manually (two hours worth of work for 2 minutes worth of playing... typical...) But when I went to mix down the final song the drum riff was missing... I looked through the VST.pbf manual and it said:

"To be able to mix down midi, you must record it as an audio file first"

Great, I thought,

And how the hell do I do that???!!!

Ok, Play the MIDI with whatever sound files you use, samples, whatnot.

Loop the Line OUT of your card to a Line IN on your card and record it
to a track.

Tweak, edit, EQ and you'll probably have to adjust it's start and stop just
a hair to make sure it matches up with the rest of your previously recorded
audio.

Remember, there is some miliseconds of delay in all this looping and
dumping and digitizing. So you WILL have to adjust it just a hair at least.

the way I do it, using soundfonts on my SBLive! is as follows:

1) set up my midi track and program the parts in, with soundfont assigned
2) once finished, mute all other midi tracks
3) go to my soundcard/windows mixer and set record source to midi
4) create new audio track
5) record on this track

the midi plays, and as the record source is midi, the new audio track records it. this should work regardless of soundfonts or anything - it's all midi output!

if you're using vsti / dxi or then you can do it internal to the 'puter; if it's an external midi tone module, then you'll have to run audio out of the external module to your soundcard inputs; if it's wavetable sounds off your card uh, I'm not sure about that...
