Re: Decent Monitors For Mixing?

Completely forgot about this thread.
Thanks for all the advice. I think I already have some pretty good headphones (Sennheiser HD450's) so I don't need any more of those.
I don't have any monitors at all at the minute so treating my room first would be pointless as I would do it and then have no money left to actually buy some monitors that would let me use the treatment.

I've been looking at Tannoy Reveal 5A's. They're around £225. Are they some of the best I'm going to get for that price? Is everything else around that price pretty much the same as each other or are the krk's much better etc?

My room is a funny shape, it's like a square but with a rectangle sized chunk taken out of it, so I suppose it is a sort of 'r' shape and I'm not sure if this is good or bad.
Where the monitors sit will be a triangle related to where I sit, but the right monitor has a wall about 5 feet away from it, while the left has a wall 12 feet away from it because of the 'r' shape.
Not sure if that is going to make for a terrible mixing environment but there's absolutely nothing I can do that change that situation.

Re: Decent Monitors For Mixing?

@ the $300 price point things are all gonna be relatively close, and you gotta ask yourself what do you really want in your monitors... do you want to use them as a tool or for enjoyment? The KRK's are very flat, thats why a lot of people like them. That doesn't necessarily mean you will like them though, as flat monitors don't sound "good", they sound neutral.

I personally have the BX8A Deluxes got them for $270 new when all was said and done. Crazy deal work great. I would not recommend the 5A's though too shrill and fatiguing. The MR5's from mackie were my fav @ around $300 might be to much for you though. Something to note is the MR5's have room adjustments on the back for cutting out or boosting certain frequency ranges.

Good luck man,
Jordan
