Decent soundcard for Vista premium ?

My M-Audio firewire is not supported by my new laptop ...so I'm looking to get something new.

Any obvious choices ? I thought about the Mbox 2 mini but it doesnt seem to be supported by vista premium either..

You sure your new laptop does not have a mini Firewire port?

The new MBOX 2 does support Vista - in fact, most devices now have Vista drivers, just check the manufacturer's website.

Re: Decent soundcard for Vista premium ?

Most devices do indeed now have drivers. However, the drivers (at least for internal cards) suck and M-Audio were so incredibly slack at providing Vista support I have decided not to use any of their products in the future.
It took over a year after Vista was released before any drivers were available for their most popular semi-pro cards - they had at least a year before Vista was released too to develop them. 2 1/2 years to develop a driver that even now isn't very good? I don't think they've developed them after release either - as far as I remember I can't recall any updates.
64 bit support has been lacking too with XP drivers stuck in beta and no further development in sight. 64bit Vista drivers are available but that took a long while to arrive too.
Anyway, that's just my personal rant about M-Audio drivers!

Re: Decent soundcard for Vista premium ?

I did notice tha M-Audio was not supportive of the Vista product, only eventually offering drivers. But, the fact that most pcs back in 07 would have choked running Vista and an audio app as well as no support for WaveRT the whole thing is kind of a moot point. Right now after some messing around i was able to get AISO4all working on my work laptop running Win7 and the internal sound card. You should look into AISO4all, so far it gives me great latency on the internal card... which I use on the road for work to write midi parts for backing tracks for prerecorded guitar parts. Still XP is sort of the standard both in business and audio, thats what I run in my home studio and probably will for some time. Remember the switch from 98 to 2000/XP? same train of thought, same concerns... it just takes a while for everybody to get caught up
