Digidesign mbox compatibility question

I understand that protools LE requires digidesign hardware, such as the Mbox. However, is the Mbox (mini) a compatible AI for other applications...namely Cakewalk or Cubase sequencers? Or is ALL digidesign hardware specific just to ProTools? Thanks, I hope I asked this question properly...I'm a noob!!!!!!!!!

The Digidesign interfaces are pretty much best used with protools and if you want other DAW software, there are better and/or cheaper interfaces to buy.

I used my MBox 2 Pro to record with Garageband yesterday and it worked fine. I was about to transfer some old Garageband tracks over to Pro Tools and realised I never got around to finishing a particular solo, and I was already in Garageband, so about 30 seconds and 64,038 notes later, it was done.

Hehe, cheers! I'm recording a lot of stuff at the moment, some of it very shreddy, and some of it total 60s psychedelic pop.

I have an Intel Mac running Pro Tools 7.4 on OSX 10.4.10.
