digital recorders

hey guys ive seen those 8 tracks, 16 tracks digital recorders and im confused, becasue there is no 8 or 16 plugs to it, so im in doubt in getting one of those, how does this work anyway?

i've never owned this type of recorders ever in my life, so buying my first one could be very hard for me

thanks for the help

Re: digital recorders

Most of them have 2 inputs allowing you to record 2 tracks at a time. This way you first record a drum track, then on a separate track record bass, then on a 3rd track rhythm guitar, 4th - Lead guitar etc etc...

They can be very useful - I much prefer using the computer and a good Multitrack Sequencer such as Cubase where you have nearly limitless number of tracks you can record to.

Re: digital recorders

8 tracks means you can record 8 tracks and one at a time May I suggest you to get a toneport instead

Re: digital recorders

ooh cool for the explanation, that sucks though, 1 track at a time.. heheh i was thinking of getting all recorded at once.. hehe

this is going to be a band's project thats why i decided to not record with the computer, well probably record then do the mixing on the computer.

@al: i am getting one soon as soon i get my self to work to get that money

Re: digital recorders

the Roland VS890 can do 8 tracks at one time recording. This is what I use for recording. They are great machines.

Re: digital recorders

To record the whole band go through a mixer first and when you are happy with the levels you can record straight into the 8-track from the mixer.
It should have 2 inputs though so you might experiment in recording in stereo.

We do have this 16 tracks mixer, so we can record directly from the mixer to the recorders right?

Cool Thanks for the tips

@7: how much do these roland cost now adays? the new ones, i couldnt find any on net, im searching all over evil bay at the moment thanks for the recommendation. they sure do look like a great machine

btw i just noticed all the VS series are almost the same, do you recommend me specifically the 890 or any VS? if they 890 is great i should really be getting that one instead of the others. even though it looks like there were some cheaper models

The Zoom MRS 1608 also records 8 tracks at once. Easy to use, includes a drum machine ,fx and a cd burner.

Re: digital recorders

Many 16 tracks will do 8 at once. It's the smaller ones that generally give you only a stereo input. That's fine for building a solo project without live drums, but if you need drums...

Have you tried bouncing this down to a computer to edit? Does anybody know how to do this?
