distorted signal, cant find the prob
i'm simply looking for areas to trouble shoot the following problem.
-whats happening is my signal is being distorted or overdriven somewhere. even plugging the guitar only into interface still produces the distorted/overdriven signal.
heres what i got. win xp pro, service pack3 in a dell desktop, hardware far excedes audio interfaces hardware requirements.
- using sonar 6
- cakewalk ua-25 ex audio interface
- kefir vst w/ recabinet impulses
- all drivers are current.
here a list of everything i have tried.
- had pc completely re-formated prior to installing and trying to use recording software and hardware.
- isolated pc and audio interface from all other electronic devices. ie.. t.v., desk lamps ect..
- tried different cables, different usb cable.
- made sure unit wasnt clipping on indicators or in software.
- uninstalled and re-installed drivers for each usb port that i tried. made sure i had latest driver from cakewalk
- plugging guitar directly into the interface with no amp. same result w/ or w/out vst and impulses loaded
- disconnected internet connection from pc
- double checked all settings on device for proper settings.
- contacted cakewalk and didnt get anything new to try. havent re-contacted them yet. but will most likely do.
-INSTALLED this unit on a mac without any complication. was able to install driver and use the interface withen garage band wiht ease. sounded great. only using the guitar plugged directally into the interface.
this leads me to believe all my cables adn hardware are good outside the pc.
does anyone else think there is a direct compatibility problem withen the pc and audio interface? this is the direction i'm leaning towards and wondering if anyone else here has had a similar experence who might have some insight or something else to troubleshoot i havent tried yet.
this set-up should work as i've sought help on the impulse forum and others are using sonar and the same audio interface without any hassle.
thanks in advance

I sure hope he hasn't been working on this problem for the last two and a half years. If so, my advice is to use a time machine to go back in time and perform a self induced abortion.

If you have a PC, have you tried using a different USB card? I would look at getting a SIIG card:

Haha, just messing with you, man.
Sorry I can't help, I have an
audiophile 192 and don't have these problems. Have however had a bunch of issues with USB devices in general.

Re: distorted signal, cant find the prob
Hello. I have received the balanced cables, and it not make any difference.
Once you put the volume up starting at 3/4 to end it is all distortion from the Sound Card.
Perfect sound until that point, but it is annoying....
Bad Sound Card??

Re: distorted signal, cant find the prob
Get a different sound card and make sure it has a Texas Instruments chip in it (see my post above).

Re: distorted signal, cant find the prob
Do you think it could be, because of a low USB port Power??

Re: distorted signal, cant find the prob
Low power to the USB controller has nothing to do with the noise problem you're having. The chipset in your USB controller is the problem. As I suggested to you throughout the thread, get a SIIG USB card and give it a try.

So... you are talking about a USB Controller, not a new USB Sound Card.
Do you think this will solve the problems on my Cakewalk UA-25EX ??
I tested in a laptop with same results. Surpasing less than 3/4 volume level resulting in audible distortion....
