Drum Kit From Hell Superior??
Hello. I wanted to ask the people here who use or used it.
I bought a 99.00 copy of Drum Kit From Hell *was not superior* and I installed it and it sucked! It would load the interface and there would be this cheezy keyboard on the bottom, couldnt figure it out.
Since then I bought a dr770 and I am not about to record a cd with it. I got one song with the dr770 sounding good but I feel limited, I like to see what I am programming as the dr770 has a small screen you cant see ****, all by ear.
I hear good things about the drum kit from hell superior, which is 500.00 or so. I heard a few people record tracks with it and I was impressed. I have Digi 002 w/ PTLE.
Can someone here take the time and explain to me how I would create
drum tracks
using DFH superior. DO I need any sequencer software or is it included?
I can only imagine that you install the DFH, and it has a sequencer program, you create a drum track then import it to PTLE?
Just to let you know the music I am creating is a Queensyche (rage for order) meets
Joe Satriani
.3
I hope I got my point out>??? anyone care to help?
Thanks!!

DFHSuperior is actually an Audio Instrument.
You need a host sequencer to load it and to program the beats into it.
When you load DFHS into an audio instrument channel, you can use the mouse, the visual keyboard, or a
midi controller
(keyboard, drumkit, drumpad, guitar with a midi connection) to program in a beat into that channel.
DFH then feeds out each virtual mic into an audio channel of your program/sequencer.
Remember, DFH consists of UNPROCESSED sounds. They are simply recorded, you must do the mixing, it is not like your traditional TR808 Drum machine where the sounds are ready to roll.

Hi there, sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread or anything but,
Hey artist, can you recommend any good midi drum pads? preferably one that has more than one pad on it so I can input more than one drum. I like the look of the Akai MPC 1000 but I don't have that sort of money.
Cheers
Joe

Sequencer :
Logic for Mac
Cubase for PC
Or if price is an issue I hear Ableton Live is good.
Drumpads, I have no idea, I use a keyboard and mouse.

Dudes, I like Drum Kit From Hell, but I just use the single shot wav files. There are so many. I assemble them on a grid in Pro Tools, beat by beat. They sound kinda' real, Plus I have individual tracks for each drum and cymbal. Check out "Save My Soul" (newly updated version), the latest thing I've done with DFH, or any of the other tunes here...

I have had a lot worse luck with drum machines. Some day I'll have a real drummer. Until then DFH is working.

Doesn't PTLE have one? Any decent host program should have one. I use Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 and it works great.
The original DFH is just a bunch of processed drum sounds. You have to load them into a software sampler and then play back a midi file from your host's sequencer. This will trigger the samples in the software sampler.
DFHS is a bunch of
unprocessed
drum samples as well, but it includes it's own software sampler. So, all you have to have is a decent host and then you start up DFHS. You trigger the sounds the same way; playing a midi file from the sequencer in your host.
A word of caution: Ensure you have PLENTY of ram if you intend on buying and using DFHS. You can get by with 512MB of ram only if you use a bare bones kit with none of the ambience or bleed mics turned on. Go with 1 to 2 GB of ram.
You can play DFHS by using a midi track (as I mentioned above) or you can use an external piece of hardware like a music keyboard, a drum machine (your DR770), an electronic drum kit, or a drum pad to play them in realtime. Just be sure that those pieces of equipment have midi ins and outs. The only issue you may have would be that the mapping in your drum machine would be different than the DFHS mapping. If you hit the button labled "kick" on your DR770, then DFHS might spit out a cymbal sound instead of a kick. All of that can be configured in your host's sequencer.
Now, to write the midi track you can use your mouse to point and click each note into the sequencer grid or you can use any of the hardware I mentioned above to enter in all of the drum notes. Just hit 'record' on the host and the sequencer will record your performance. You can do it one kit piece at a time or you can do the whole kit at the same time...much easier if you use an electronic drum kit.
Post back with any other questions!
Good luck and have fun!
Todd

Original DFH is also unprocessed sounds.... that was the premise behind it's creation.
