drum machine softwere?

Drum machine! it would make my life so much easier! anyway, before i go spending hundreds of $$, i was wondering if anyone could recomed cheap (or better yet, free!) softwere for this purpose. i assume looping programs like fruity loops and cakewalk stuff do this kind of thing, but in this field i am completely ignorant. Thanks!

I have been having some luck with soundfonts and a midi authoring program, would that be an option?

recommend ns kit (type into google), and drums by salvo on hammersound.

there are some good short demos on the ns kit web site
