Effects Loop Set-up

Okay now for probably the most elementary question....

When plugging in different effects pedals, can you plug them directly into the input in the front of the amp or should they go into the FX loop in the back??

Re: Effects Loop Set-up

depends on if the effect is more preamp based or if it after the eq. typically distortions, phasers, and wah type effects are before the amp; while chorus, delays, reverbs, and noise gates are in the loop. not a rule, just a typical. compressors can go into either depending on what you want to even out: picking/string dynamics or overall output.

Re: Effects Loop Set-up

Pedals should generally go in front of the amp. There are some(like the eventide factor line, tc electronic nova pedals, or the boss dd-20) that can do both: line level(+4) which is the effects loop, or instrument level(-20) which is in front the amp. For the most part pedals will go in front of the amp.

Those line/instrument level effects and rack effects units will go in the effects loop.
