I just got a copy of Finale, and its looking...rather strange. Anybody else have a similar problem? Any ideas on how to make it look 'normal'?

Re: Finale

My best advice is to ditch it and get Sibelius.

Re: Finale

Wallie,

That is related to the fonts you've got installed on your PC and the setup within Finale. Not quite sure what you may need to tweak exactly as it's been sometime since I don't mess up with the fonts, but should not be a big deal. Try messing around with the default fonts and select the regular ones that come by default with Finale... I know, I wish I recalled which menu/option you need to try so that I could tell you... Worst case, the Jazz fonts are spelled just like that "Jazz..." then something. That should fix it temporarily.

Again, should not be that big of a deal. Other thing that could happen is that you, for some strange reason, don't have the right fonts installed. They should have been installed when you installed Finale though. I'm just mentioning this in case, as there is the possibility you could have deleted them if messing with the Windows' fonts folder. Remote, yet a possibility.

Finale is good, pricey but good.

GL.

How about next time have enough brains to not take a picture of
your desktop showing you illegally downloaded the program.

Doing a simple 10 second search for "alt.binaries.x.rar"
the 3rd 4th and 5th result is....
none other than a FINALE TORRENT.

Pathetic.

Rip,

You need to calm down. Bottom line is he got the software and, whether it's legal or not, the issue is irrelevant. The guy asked a simple question and all he needed was a simple answer, not your smart comment.

Re: Finale

Well, no one really cared about it being a torrent, so please give it a rest.

Re: Finale

I was very aware it was right there...I'm not too fussed that I downloaded it.

I'm looking for notation software I like, and seeing how I don't know anybody who has it, I chose to download it...
If I choose to use it on a regular basis I will most likely consider buying the software.

But I don't see the problem RIP? Unless your willing to guarentee me you have never illegally obtained music/software/videos from the internet?
If you have, try not to get too high and mighty on me next time.

Sibelius is definitely the better program IMO. Finale can do lots of things, but the interface is made way more difficult than it needs to be. Once you get it all down, there's still a major issue of the program being inconvenient and time consuming (for most people). Talk to any serious composer or arranger (including the ones that publicly endorse finale) and the majority of them really don't like the program...in fact most of them use sibelius. Somewhere along the line, Finale become somewhat of an industry standard despite pretty much everyone knowing that it wasn't that great of a program.

Re: Finale

Nice. I got both the "i download to try it out and i'll buy it if i like it..."
AND the "other people do it so its ok" excuses all in one post.

I see the Finale website offers a demo right on their page.

I love how people try to justify things.
I'll leave it at that.

That demo doesn't have all the features of the full program, which is why I didn't get it in the first place.
Believe it or not RIP, I have in the past purchased the software Ive illegally obtained (Sony Vegas 7), because I thought it was well worth the investment. I would like to see the product continued, just like anything I pay for.

Find me where I said "other people do it so its ok". Just because I've assumed you have downloaded music/software doesn't mean I'm trying to justify myself. I find it rather amusing and hypocritical..(if its true of course, which I guess I won't be able to prove).

Anyways I'm not going to, nor ever have lost sleep over this sort of thing. Your entitled to your opinion, and the fact it differs from mine is fine by me.
