free software for guitar recording

Any ideas of some free software for recording guitar tracks?

Nothing fancy just able to take a guitar, and then allow me to multitrack.

I used to use DATABECKER, which was great, but doesn't go on XP.

Appreciate any ideas?

You can use Sonic Foundry's Acid, the free version that's available for download off their site allows up to 8 tracks (I think). It's not exactly what you're looking for, but it'd work. Someone sent me a link to a program called Kristal or something that had some great reviews, 16 tracks, totally freeware. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty good.

why dont you save the cash and get something that will offer you the ability to expand your studio into a proper project studio?

I would love to expand into a real studio. And it is what I will do eventually.

I have so many unfinished songs that I need to get down that I am beginning to forget them. I am not very organised in that regard.

Also I have just moved house, and all spare money is taken up with the custom jem I am building : )

I will try those bits of software though.

Try Tracktion!
Great piece of software which costs 80$ if you wanna buy it. You can test it by downloading the demo version, though.
It's really powerful but still very easy to use. (everything in one window)
