Hardware versus Software mixers???

Hi Guys,

In my soon-to-become-reality home studio I'm planning to do all the recording on the pc, with a soundcard that has 4 inputs. More is not needed, because there will be no drums recorded here, only single instruments. (sometimes with multiple outputs, piezo etc.)

Now my question is: Is there need for a hardware mixer? Or can it
all be done with the software mixer that comes with the recording software? What are the pro's and con's??

Thanks,

Harry.

If your card box has pre's on it, then you don't need an external mixer. the less in the signal path, the better.
