Re: Headphones
you want wide frequency range with as flat an eq curve as possible. sennheiser, sony, and akg make good models in any price range. closed back and open back may be an issue for you if you need isolation, so look into that as well. i have 3 main types of earphones that i use. all of these are more prosumer based, but have yielded great results due to application.
vic firth sih-1: i use these for tracking. not the greatest tone, but very helpful for minimizing bleed into condensor mics. they offer around 24db of attenuation of outside sound to the ear. great around live amps and drum kits, too.
akg m70: got these with the musician's friend art headamp, m70 pack. better sounding, but with less attenuation. these are far better for overall monitoring where bleedover is less critical.
ultimate ears superfi 3. these are inner ear monitors which we use for stage work. very clean and clear. almost no leakage and the sound is magnificent. these are the low end ultimate ears and i have heard the upper models. they are fantastic. granted these are much more expensive, but are worth it for audiophiles.
i am looking to spend about $200 a pair for 2 new studio only headphones. one pair for tracking vox in front of my mics and a second for critical mixdown. so i am interested in responses to this thread as well...just with a lesser restrictive budget.
