Help for a beginer

Ok first I must say that I'm sorry for this message, as I can imagine it has been asked countless times before, but I did a search (honest) and found no real answer.

I want to start recording my guitar work, preferably on CD. I was just wondering what the basic things I need are? At the moment I have the guitar (duh lol), a computer, an amp, several effects pedals, and some cash to use if I need any. I don't really know what sort of leadsI need to run my guitar to the cpu or anything like that, or what programs are best (I have Cakewalk). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
