The devil inside your computer telling you to get a better processor/more ram?

What are your current specs and what soundcard/audio interface are you using?

AMD Athlon XP1800 clocked at 1.5GHz
256MB RAM
Voodoo4 AGP
Eidrol DA2496 PCI

and thats about it... I have a sneaky suspicion that its the motherboard area (one of those big bits ain't it ) knackered because its seemingly struggling for speed... and the problem has only reared its head recently...

Ive just uninstalled the edirol and Im gonna restart and re-install to see if that makes a difference... wish me luck..

Do you have an up to date virus scanner and firewall? That are lots of nasty little sods out there at the moment that make your PC run like it was steam powered.

Since this is in recording - does this happen using Cakewalk/Sonar/etc?

If so, it's most likely your machine choking on itself, since 256MB of RAM is a bit low for multitrack recording and processing big clips.

Yeah I'd advise more ram, but also try defragmenting your hard drive, emptying caches, and use less plugins :P
PCI AI so no problems there.

sorry, the noise occurs in play back as well

which is even weirder. I will try the defragmenting thing tho...

I just did a system restore to a couple of days back and it seems to be ok for now...

I'm having to systematically go back through and find out which program broke the camels back so-to-speak...

hehehe

Im sorely tempted by a mac... unfortunately, the price tag that they have is just a bit too much on the vertical side of things...

My ideal system would be a MOTU core based system running on't mac with their performer software using my mackie control surface with a couple of extenders... now THAT would be sweet... aint gonna happen soon though methinks
