Home recording easily

Hei,
have recorded a little with audacity via my Line 6 Pod pro.
Now i want to record directly from my amp. What should i get. Multitracker? Read a lot about Cakewalk powerstudio, Cubase LE4 with Lexicon alpha, Native instruments RIG3but have the impression that most of the people using these PC solutions have problems with recording and spend more time on the PC than on their instrument. Any suggestions for easy solutions?

Re: Home recording easily

you need a good mic, even better preamp, a good i/o device, and decnt software. this is assuming you have a pretty good machine to run it on.

for the basics:

shure sm-57 or audix i5. $100 dynamic mic...great for guitars
rane ms1b, a sole mic preamp for the mic...sorry, no di, but for $150...
just about any usb 2-4 channel i/o box. i use the m-audio fast track, but i don't use it to record, just for on the road production/practice. you'll end up using the outboard pre anyway.
i do like presonus stuff for the low end side.
i run cakewalk sonar for my DAW. lotsa stuff out there. people seem to really like reaper for cheap and good. supposed to be under $100 after the trial period.

Re: Home recording easily

I'm similar to you. I use a Vamp Pro into what was originally Cubase LE but I've since upgraded to Cubase 4. The Cubase LE was packaged with the Lexicon Omega that I use for the converter. These can be found used pretty cheaply but like rty says there are a lot of USB i/o boxes.

What ever you get for recording software prepare to spend a lot of time with it and stick with it. It takes a while to get to know the software really well. Once you do then you'll get faster and more efficient at getting your ideas recorded.
