I don't understand the issue w/ EIDE. It works OK. Certainly it's fine for the vast majority of PC users. Yeah, I want 10k SATA too, but I won't take the VIA performance hit to get it... ;-)

Higher tranfer rates, longer, thinner, and easier to manage cables, no jumpers, and with the Raptor, 10K.

EIDE's fine, I'm just saying in the specific case of the Raptor, SATA's better.

I wouldn't make the jump to SATA for a 7200rpm drive.

4) 4 Mic Stands - Bout 175 CDN total
5) Marshall MPX 2001 Large Condenser (in a pack with a small condenser!!!) - $270 CDN
6) M-Audio Delta 44 soundcard - $300 CDN
7) Audio Buddy 2 channel mic preamp $70 CDN
only thing is that i would need 10+ tracks for recording 'cos
i would like record the whole band at once . so more mic's
i think. But whatabout the soundcard and the interfaces and the preamp?

EDIT: I've got my first little green ball !! Yippee!!!

another easyer was (and inexpensive way too for us poor people) is to get a computer and a minidisk or dat recorder with a great stereo mic and then transfer it to your computer. This is much simpeler than using lots of mics and machines unless you want to put out a cd. I use a minidisk with a sony stereo mic then transfer it to a computer. Its' fine for demos and just jamming its also a lot easyer!
