How to build my home studio ?

Hi,

I have recently bought a new pc :

Pentium 4 3.6 ghz
1 gb DDR2-ram
7800 GT nvideo 256 mb ram
120 gb HDD
Logitech x530 speakers

Now i wan't to buy some software / hardware for creating music ...

I heard the toneport is good and all , but which soundcard ( or other option like the toneport ) is going to get you to zero latency ? ( my soundcard is onboard )

Is the creative profidelity good ? ( it is expensive )

And what software to use ? I wan't software that's got a good tutorial along with it , or a tutorial you can easily buy . ( Like DVD )
And if possible it should have a good drum program with an easy accessable interface ?

I heard Reason 3.0 is quite good ?

My budget is max 800 $

Ty !

Nick

( I've got a flextone II plus , and a Ibanez jem 7D BK )

Well, Reason is said to be the best of the bunch for drum and synth stuff. Im getting a Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy Platinum for zero lat. Im currently running Native Instruments Guitar Rig 2 with loads of clippy lag.

I am in the same boat. From what I have read I and spoken to sales people about these products you need to ascertain what level you want form the product.

get an m-audio delta 1010lt, m-powered pro-tools or sonar 5 studio. and another gig of ram. video tutorial for either are around $40.the delta 1010lt is 8 analog ins and 2 spdif ins, with 8 analog outs, for $200. like $300 for the software, another gig of ram for around $75-100. its all in your budget.

Re: How to build my home studio ?

I like Traction 2 from Mackie for software, around $150 with lots of plug-ins. For a sound card check out edirol stuff (www.edirol.com) which is a Roland company, I use an old 2496 that has been discontinued but I'm very happy with it, their FA-101 looks nice if you have Firewire.

The problem with the Pro Tools LE software (or any PT software) is that you have to use their hardware which is limited in the home studio price range.

Forgot to add, this is my <$0.02 worth, there are lots of options available and there are +/- opinions about all of them.
