If you have a Yahama n12....

Yeah, I know I spelled Yamaha wrong!! Can a mod change it so I don't look like such an idiot plz?

The "Control Surface" stopped working. Like many thing with microsoft, things/settings sometimes just "change" on their own and stop working properly.

If I press record on the program with the mouse, the control surface rec button lights up. So there is a connection going out tot he board. But the buttons do not control the program.

If you have this set up, please check your device setup properties and see if it's different than mine.

Thanks, Darin

Re: If you have a Yahama n12....

You have 2 problems going Darin:

1. You're using MIDI to connect this unit to your pc
2. You're using Cubase

I would get a firewire card if I were you and connect the n12 directly to it. In most instances, firewire will work flawlessly without any issues. Make sure the firewire card you buy has a TI chipset in it. Also, the manual (read page 21), says that MIDI is to be used to connect to external MIDI devices to the n12 while hooked up to a pc via firewire but not to connect to a computer.

This is what it says:

8 MIDI IN/OUT jacks
These jacks are used to connect external MIDI devices,
such as a synthesizer, via MIDI cables. If you are
connecting the n8/n12 to a computer via an IEEE 1394
cable, these jacks serve as a MIDI interface that
connects the computer to external MIDI devices.

9 DAW I/O jacks
These 6-pin IEEE 1394 (S400) jacks are used to
connect a computer to the mixer via a IEEE 1394 cable.
Both jacks feature the same functionality. You can
use one of them to connect a computer, and the
other connector to connect daisy-chained devices.
If your computer has a 4-pin IEEE 1394 jack, use a
4-pin to 6-pin type IEEE 1394 cable that meets the
S400 specifications.

Re: If you have a Yahama n12....

Actually, I am using Firewire, not midi. But for some reason the setup in the manual has you go through this page of checkmarks to set up the interface between the remote n12 controller and Cubase. I prefer Sonar, which I have. But the mixer is made to work with Cubase, which I have used for a couple years before this. I just bought this unit a couple months ago, and it was working until this week, for no apparent reason.

The guy that sold it to me at the local music store, who is also my friend spent some time on the phone with me and then jumped online. There are 3 updated pieces of software that I need. One is over 100 megs, I'm on dial up. he dl'd it for me and I will pick it up tomorrow. Another is 22megs and i am getting it now.

I have been scouring forums unsuccessfully. But I did pick up a new acronym. "RTFM" It took me a minute to figure it out. A lot of people don't Read The F'n Manual I guess. Around here it would be equivalent to "UTFST" When someone asks, "Why wont my JS100 stay in tune?"

I think I'll have this worked out in a few days. Hopefully. If not. I'll be back on here asking where to start when building a new pc around this thing.

Here's what I got now:
