im wanting to try and record guitar stuff in garageband, but with a D.I. i'll be using a 12" g4 ibook. im really trying to find some info on how this sounds. i've had some good results from mic'ing up an amp, but it really isnt that conveniant and i could use my sm-57 if i used an iMic, anyone got any sound samples?

Re: iMic

I have a first generation iMic and it works just fine. I just have use a female 1/4 inch split down to male RCA for the input. No problem. I use it on an iBook G4 for laying down ideas. The clean stuff sounds great. I find the distortion models in GB to be super noisy and all around sh1t. My solution is to run my guitar into my J-station - to the iMic - to GB. Much better distorted tones and much less noise.

Re: iMic

I don't have any samples handy but iMic is a good (affordable) solution.

Re: iMic

I had wicked latency problems with the iMic. Now I just go from the mixer out to the stereo mini in on the iMac's soundcard, no problems.

I had some latency issues as well but then I learned about ducking in Garage Band and the correct setting fixed the issue.
