Installing Sound Card
I bought a sound card earlier this year and used it in my old computer, worked perfectly. Just bought a new Compaq Presario and each time I've tried installing it I get this message from Windows XP - 'Doesn't pass Windows XP logo test... may destabilize system immediately or later on if I continue with installation...' I've downloaded 2 of their latest drivers and an older one, so far no luck. Any suggestions?!
One guy told me that I'd be fine continuing the installation - the message is only because the manuf. didn't/wouldn't pay Microsoft to include the drivers of the soundcard into the pool of 'Acccepted drivers' in XP.
If something happens, you also have the System Restore function of XP.

Re: Installing Sound Card
This is why Comcrap, err, I mean Compaq sucks major donkey balls. It was the first computer I ever bought from a computer company, and the last. Its cheaper, and better to just build one from parts, and you never have these proprietary or licencing issues.
My only suggestion would be to wipe your drive, run out and by a fresh copy of windows, don't use that compaq junk. But try to continue the install first, chances are its just Compaq thats being ****. Oh and make sure you have all your latest windows updates.

Re: Installing Sound Card
All that means is Windows has not "signed" off on the drivers. Just use the lastest M audio drivers and you will be fine.

Re: Installing Sound Card
Ayrton is correct. But simply ignoring the message and clicking "OK" anyway, you can still use the driver you are trying to install.

Re: Installing Sound Card
For what it is worth, I always wipe clean new computers and reinstall everything. Using the set up from the factory tends to have issues, so it is always better to start with a fresh install.

I probably set up like 300 Compaq's and they are junk, right out of the box, nothing but problems. The only reason why I got one was because I was able to get a huge discount on a presario.

I actually had another Compaq before I got this one, never had a single problem with it...

Re: Installing Sound Card
Defintely go the self-built route for the next PC, as I did. Visit the anandtech.com forums. You'll find some extremely good help over there.

What he said. Pretty much every drivers asks you this question so it's nothing to worry about.

Re: Installing Sound Card
I've gone through installing it at least 7 or 8 times already, and everything is setup properly (even says it's fully functional and working) but I get no sound. I used the same card in another computer before this one and not one problem, sound worked perfectly right after installation.
