Laptop.

I want a laptop, I'm hogging the computer, so I'm going to get my own. I'll have about 500$ to spend. What should I get? I would like to do a small bit of recording, but not too much. People have recommend a Sony or HP. Although Apple is my favorite, not enough $$$$$$$ for one. Thanks!
