Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm

Ok, so Line 6 recently came out with the Line 6 POD Studio UX2 (and UX1) with POD Farm. They are the successors to the Line 6 Toneport (I think).

It looks really cool and for $200 looks like a great computer recording system for beginner newbies such as myself.

Anyone have this already? How is it?

But I heard that you have to buy a lot of effects and amp models, etc etc

Also, I only have an amp with some decent built-in DSP effects. I have no effect foot pedals or anything. So that's another reason I want something like this, so I can add a lot of effects and add drums and bass.

got it and love it. i actually bought the platinum bundle with the gx back on closeout for $99. line6 had a free upgrade offer to podfarm and it kills. i actually don't record or jam with it, i use it as a glorified plugin in sonar, but the tones and combos are great. i prefer line6 stuff to the likes of amplitube and waves gtr. haven't used guitar rig, so can't comment.

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm

I'm not to thrilled with how I had to hook it up to play through my computer speakers, and I'm not very used to recording software, so although I can get it to play, it's just too much of a hassle right now for me to mess with, and I haven't even bothered trying to record anything.

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm

i don't record anything through it. pod farm is fun to play with, i don't use it to track with. you could, though. you would just have to have it open at the same time your DAW is up as to reduce latency. how i record is i split my guitar signal into my preamp and to my pod. so i am effectively recording 2 tracks: 1 dry, 1 wet. i will either use gearbox/pod farm or reamp through my amp to get better sounds. usually rhythms get reamped and leads get the plugin. for the most part i just use pod farm as a glorigied plugin.

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm

Hello, I have the Line 6 POD Studio UX2 and although it is inexpensive I've been using it for years now. I even recorded my first album through it, with perfect reverb all the way. Tone is simply great, I would never change this part of my gear except for a single part concerning the wah pedal; the switch gets stuck with the volume sometimes. And I dont want that to happen on stage... But I guess not all PODs have this defect.
Cheers!

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm

I got an M-Audio FastTrack which was a complete piece of junk. It just had loads of background hiss.

I upgraded to a UX2 and a few of the extension packs - it is simply brilliant. The amp/effects sims are simple to use and sound extremely good.

I also highly recommend REAPER - a $60 DAW. POD farm works as a plugin so you can do multitrack recordings from the UX2 with all the configurable effects.

You'll probably get initial latency issues with the UX2 and other software - I found the trick to get rid of it is set the buffer sizes to the smallest on the Line6 drivers AND the ASIO drivers as well.

I like mine. I use reaper as well. Check out a clip I made using them ...

I'm sure others could do better...but I'm not that good.

Anyway, I think they are good deal for the money. Go for it!

I use a UX2 with Reaper also--it's really a nice and powerful setup for a pretty fair price.

Re: Line 6 POD Studio UX2 with POD Farm

Check and see if there are reviews in the Jemsite Comparison Shopping section.

I have a DI-S Silver bundle that I really like. When it came time to upgrade, I was going to get the UX2, but then realized I needed a MIDI controller and control surface as well, so I got the KB37. Truly a great piece of gear. I'll be writing a review and posting in the next few weeks once I've really put some use to it. My friend got the UX2 and he loves it--he doesn't record but loves it+POD Farm as a Jam Tool. I record all my official review clips using SONAR 8.5 Studio and 2 very simple POD Farm patches.

Cheers,

Race
