Looking for some new speakers

Hey Folks,

this is more of a home audio question, I was wondering what speakers you guys use on your home audio system to listen to music?

Do most of you use studio quality monitors or do you use somethign else?

I was thinking of starting over with my audio system and I thought I would start with the speakers.

Thanks for any advice

Steve

Re: Looking for some new speakers

I use a pair of B&W 602's for music. For my recording studio, I just got a pair of M-Audio BX8a Deluxes.

Re: Looking for some new speakers

We have KRK Rockit (8s I think) in the studio. They have a bit more low end than some systems, but the clarity and accuracy of the mids and highs is spot on. The other monitors we found that sounded as good or better were twice the price, so KRKs won.

But I think most people would recommend listening to recordings on as many systems as you can to get an overall feel for where your mix and mastering stands.

Re: Looking for some new speakers

KRK's sounded like total crap in comparison to the M-Audio BX8a Deluxes when I auditioned them at GC a couple of weeks ago. While the KRK's may be a great value, if your ears are as picky as mine, you'll want to spend the money right and get the BX8a Deluxes.

I have 2 different speaker systems.
Tannoy Studio monitors when I listen to stuff the band has recorded and then a set of Mirage floor standing speakers for general use.

I currently use these near-field monitors in the studio for playback. Awesome sweet spot.

Yep, I've got the 8's and I got them for a steal price. There's no coloring to the sound whatsoever with either the 5's or 8's.

I have Tannoy PBM8's in my home stereo(with an NHT sub and Boston Acoustics rears). Event ASP8's and KRK Rokit5's with sub in the studio.
