Question

Looking to buy some recording gear, but I have a problem?

So I have a unique problem, and I'm not sure what to do about it. So I was actually getting ready to buy some starting gear to lay down some basic tracks. I was just going get an audio interface like an mbox or something, a midi keyboard, some okay monitors, and maybe just an SM57 or something to start me up with! The problem is, I was just trying to hook up some speakers I already had for my MacBook which is what I was going to be using to record with, but my headphone port is broken! It doesn't matter what speakers or headphones I try to use, it just doesn't work right. The internal speakers work fine though.

So I was wondering maybe, if there were any monitors that maybe hooked up through USB or firewire? If not, I have a decent PC I can use to record with, but then I'm not sure what type of software I should be using?

If anyone has any suggestions let me know!

Thanks!

Most, if not all, firewire boxes will allow you to connect monitors to them, rather than to the computer.

The box effectively becomes your soundcard. So you have no worries, you won't want to use the headphone port on the Mac anyway.

If its a M-Audio Firewire 410, it has 4 ins, and 10 outs, and a headphone out so you can connect monitors to any of the Outs, or to the headphone port, for example.

Really?!

That would work out awesome then, because I really would like to use my Mac for recording than my PC, I was getting worried! So I just need to find an interface that has audio out on it too?

Yeah I was actually looking at the M Audio 410, it looks like it should work pretty well!
