Mac guys I need your help on software..

I have been playing guitar here and there just basically messing around since I was 16(30 now) but I never took it seriously and have never ever learned a ounce of theory.

Well that brings me here today, I am looking for some software to help me practice my technique and do some basic recording(primarily just to hear myself while not playing so I can learn from my mistakes).

Now the key is, I am not a very wealthy man so freeware or cheap shareware($20-$30) is a must..

I am looking for a good program for a metronome, now before someone says just google it, I thought maybe someone has used one for a while and its better than trying 40 different ones.

Secondly I am looking for something basic as far as recording, I dont need 1000 channels, and 900 studio things, just a red button and thats it. Again hopeing someone has used something so I dont have to download and try 40 programs.

I am trying my best to develop myself as a player, instead of just a random guy who can play a couple of intros/passages to some tunes.

Thanks in advance
Brett

P.S. if anyone sees this and knows of anywhere with free lessons on theory feel free to post them as well.

So I take it your mac doesn't have garageband installed in the included software package? It has both metronome and recording functionality.

Alternatively, there are free options, check out Audacity which is actually the freeware program that Berklee recommends to it's online students. Never used it myself, so I can't comment..but the price is right. Any recording software is going to have the ability to use a click track or program a simple drum beat to use as a metronome.
