Kinda silly, but I need to know:
I've got an Echo Mia soundcard here... if I use a microphone with it, do I have to have a preamp between the two? Or can I just run the mic directly into the soundcard?
just for reference:
Hardware Features:
2 balanced ¼" analog inputs with 106dB (A-weighted) dynamic range
2 balanced ¼" analog outputs with 106dB (A-weighted) dynamic range
24 bit coaxial S/PDIF digital I/O
Supports full duplex 4 channel in, 4 channel out operation.
PCI bus mastering interface
+4dBu or -10dBv analog I/O on each analog channel
The Mia doesnt have a mic pre, so you will need one to record via mic. The signal from the mic will be too weak without one to be picked up by the sound card.
I picked up an MA Audio Buddy mic preamp for $80 from Musician's Friend. 2 inputs, cheap, phantom power and it's tiny.
Well worth checking out.
