New laptop, need recording hardware advice

Hi i bought a new laptop, because my other laptop was stolen so i had to get a new one.
I was using audigy 2 zs, but now i got this laptop with the expresscard 54, so no audigy this time also with windows vista.

how good or bad is the creative labs x-fi for notebook?
is it good for recording?

could you recommend me a usb device?

amd athlon 64 x2 tk-53(1.7ghz, 2 x 256 kb l2 cache)

2 gb ddr2 ram

up to 758 mb nvidia geforce 7000m

17" screen

160 gb hdd




What do you think about it?
i still got the chance to change it, maybe for one with this specs

intel core 2 duo t7300 2ghz
2 gb ddr2
intel video card up to 3xx mb(dont remember well)
same specs as the other one, just with 15.4" screen

and pricier, than the one i have.

Would be better if i change to the intel one?

What are you trying to do? Will you only be recording 1 or 2 tracks at a time, or would you want to mic a whole drum kit? What is your budget? There are hundreds of interfaces out there, it would help to know what you expect.

FWIW, I use a Presonus Firepod, just updated to FP-10 (the "new" Firepod) firmware. It seems to work well with Vista with the latest drivers. The previous drivers had a few glitches, mostly with non-recording programs.

A friend uses edirol FA-66 for his live keyboard sounds and he's very happy with it. I've heard a lot of good comments about the lexicon too.
I think rgr's right. You'll have to see what you need.

Hi, i need to record drums mainly, because for guitar i use a zoom g9.2tt, also for voice, i used to record drums with the creative labs audigy 2 zs, with a little mixer, but the sound was stereo, and no tweakable for each piece. my latest test(before my lap was stolen) was making an stereo mix of drums except the kick, this one was coming from the zoom g9 to a different channel in cool edit pro 2.
I need a hardware(or 2) that allows me to record like 4 channels at the same time. i still can use the audio in on the lap, and zoom g9 for more channels.

My budget is like $350 dollars.

I would check out Edirol FA-66 (6 channels), FA-101 (10 channels), Terratec Phaze 88 (8 channels) and the Presonus Firepod (8 channels).
