New Laptop Problem
I got a new laptop (It's a Dell Inspiron 1150) and I want to use it for recording. Now, it has one microphone input and one headphone out jack. I plugged my mixer into the microphone jack, and I cant monitor it.......it is coming thru the computer, and recording just fine, but its acting like the microphone is muted or something......
I checked in my audio mixer, and there isnt even a spot for Microphone....
So my question is, how do I monitor what I am recording live if I cant hear it?
My old computer worked just fine, but this one has XP and is totally new to me.....
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Re: New Laptop Problem
Did you go to the Windows audio control panel and check if the "Microphone" slider under "Playback" is not turned down or muted?

Re: New Laptop Problem
In playback, there isnt even a control for microphone......
Thats what is puzzling me.....
When you go to "Options" and it gives you the list, Microphone is omitted. I dont get it, what do I do?

Re: New Laptop Problem
What about "Line in"? Is it there, is the slider muted?
Are you saying that if you go to Options>Properties>Playback microphone isn't even there? Is it there when you go to recording?
If that's so it could be something to do with the soundcard drivers, but I'm really not too sure....

Re: New Laptop Problem
There is no Line in on this computer.....none of the sliders are muted.....
When I go to Options/Properties/Playback.......Microphone is not there,,,,
It IS however when I go to recording.....but that just selects the output source for recording and has nothing to do with muting it or anything.,..
Im confused

Re: New Laptop Problem
i'm confused too. are your speakers muted? is your soundcard disabled for playback? is the soundcard on the laptop allocated (selected) as the playback device? what happens when you plug headphones in to the headphones jack on the laptop?

Re: New Laptop Problem
Everything is working completely fine....
Playback is perfect, it records just fine, all that is good.....
Just, when I plug my mixer into the mic jack, I cant hear anything coming thru the computer.....no monitoring capability......
But its coming thru the computer, and records just fine, I just cant hear it when its recording.....that make more sense?
----------still confused
