Heya guys. While I'm sure people ask these kinds of questions every day, I couldn't think of anywhere better to turn to.
Basically I'm starting my own mobile recording jobby, using my 2.16 GHz macbook pro running logic pro 7.2. I've pretty much decided on the mics I want to buy; AKG D112, 2 AKG C1000S, 3 SM57s and an SM58. Please feel free to comment on these choices.
The problem lies in choosing my interface for recording. I was all set on going with the focusrite saffire pro, until I read that users can experience huge recording latency due to buggy firewire drivers in mac os. Which interfaces on the market use their own drivers (apart from RME) and so would avoid this problem? Any good experiences with the MOTU 8pre?
Also, what setups do you guys prefer in terms of an AI? Way I see it, I could go the route I'd been considering and get an all in one 8 preamp firewire interface, or I could get a 6 track mixer with an additional firewire interface to get it onto the computer (would this still preserve the original mixer tracks however? Multitracking is a MUST)? Pros/cons/experiences and recommendations would be HIGHLY appreciated - this is a very big investment for me and I can't afford to not get it right first time.
Thanks very much for your help
Mark.
