Pro Tools Free - Opinions?

I'm wondering if anyone's used Pro Tools Free, and what they think of it? *I'm running a Pentium3-550mhz, 384 meg of ram, 60 gig 7200 rpm harddrive, 20 gig harddrive (not 7200 rpm), CD-burner, etc, etc. *This is a shared computer, and will not be used for only recording. *Will this be ok? *

Check that it's compatible with your system.. It doesn't run under Win2k or WinXP

Checked it out, I'm running Win 98SE, so I'm fine. *I'm trying it out, just for the heck of it (Hey, it's free, and I have high speed internet. * *).

Pro Tools Free will run under Windows ME and 98SE. *It's an 8-track, simpler version of recording software that is used by many professionals. *Entire albums have been recorded using the high-end versions. *For example:

A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish (and maybe Significant Other, I'm not sure)
And many others use it for demoing while on the road.

Here is something I did using Pro Tools Free. *It was originally recorded to .wav files using AcidXP (a long time ago) and I just EQ-ed and polished it recently. *

Hi! Love PT   PTFREE will work with WinME. Unless one wants tons of MIDI support (quantizing, etc), it works, it's free. And the user interface is easy to learn- window for editing, window for mixing. Nikki

TwoHands: Nice recording... The Tea Party version of it still pales in comparison to Daniel Lanois' original, though.

Kremlin,
try setting Compatibility Mode on a shortcut to the program - right click on a shortcut to it, and go to the Compatibility tab. From there, set it to 98/ME mode, and try that.
It might work.
This certainly made SoundDiver for my POD 2.x run under XP...

I think The Tea Party's album version is good, but not great. *I've heard the Daniel Lanois version, and it's also good. *But my favorite version ever was their live version at the Much Music concert after 9-11. *They played Messenger, Walking Wounded (Gibson double-neck...cool! *But they were off from the sequencer by a bit), and Requiem (which was just amazing). *I find The Tea Party's albums are great, but better after some listening to let some stuff grow on you, and really cool in Dolby Pro Logic. * *But honestly, they're best stuff is live. *

Pro-tools free is OK...all the windows versions that I have tried always had annoying little glitches...But hey it' free so who's gonna complain? Beside all the work I heve ever done on it got done properly.

I'm just picky cause I work on the 50 000 dollar pro-tools rig

i dont think that AIAUW was recorded in protools was it? Vai used an MOTU audio interface connected to mac laptop not a digidesign inteface. My guess is logic or MOTU DP3 (if not protools ) I know he edited it on protools. whats he have a MIX 24 system??

Steve recorded all the live stuff using Logic, I'm pretty sure he imported the files into his Pro Tools system when he got home for the final mixing and mastering. *Knowing Steve, he probably did some fix up work too.
