Pro Tools Help Needed

I have a Digidesign Pro Tools 003 Rack and an MBox 2 with PT 7.4

I have a HP laptop that does not have a FireWire input. The laptop is an Duo Core Intel Chip set with 2 Gig of RAM and runs Windows Vista on a 32 Bit system. I intend using the MBox 2 and the laptop as a portable recording system.

My main PC/DAW is a P4 (925X/XE Chipset) with a firewire input and 3 Gig of Ram running Windows XP attached to a Digi 003 Rack (well about to be anyway).

1. I am about to run PT 7.4 through the laptop and use the MBox 2 via USB 2.0. Any forseeable issues?

2. With my main PC/DAW I am currently running PT 7.1, should I completely uninstall this system prior to uploading PT 7.4?

3. What do I need to do to to my current PT music that I have created and how do I tranfer the old 7.1 files in to 7.4 for use ( I have been backing up everything)?

4. I am thinking of buying XP Pro (SP2) to create a new clean install on the PC, am I better off just buying vista or XP Pro (SP3) given that I can run Vista with 7.4?

If more detail on my IT systems is required just let me know.

I want to get all this sorted prior to booting up the 003 so I await your advice.

Cheers,

Wolfram

Re: Pro Tools Help Needed

I went with Vista, clean install. No issues with the Mbox 2 and laptop. I have the factory bundle with the M Box 2 and I have transfered all of my plug in' across on to my clean system. All I need to do now is mount the 003 in a rack, tidy up and hit record.

Just be aware that USB drives are not supported or recommended. Some have had success and others have had misery. Check the compatibility pages for a PCM-CIA firewire card so you can use an approved firewire external drive with your laptop(and also with your 003 setup).
