Pro Tools LE problem

I borrowed Pro Tools LE from a friend and downloaded it. I tried to open it and it said I couldn't open it unless the hardware was connected. I'm not sure what hardware they're talking about eg:mixing boards, mics, soundcards, etc. I need help and wanted to know if any other computer recording users could help me. I also have Cool Edit Pro which works fine.

Pro Tools as to run through accompanying hardware like their M-Box or a DigiDesign rack, otherwise the program won't even start. The M-Box is between 3 and 500 dollars and the rack is between 1 and 2 (sorry about the vague prices, it's been a while since I shopped them)

****!!! screw that. I'll just keep using Cool Edit Pro. That's kind of a rip off. One question though: What should I use to connect my mic to the computer. I've been using a $2 1/4" to 1/8" converter from radio shack which hasn't worked too well. Any other suggestions besides huge expensive pre-amps.

hehehe...

perhaps the M Box is up your street then! other than that, I would suggest hunting for a break-out box based recording system. (essentially an outboard sound card with either an internal PCI card or a firewire connection) this sort of system will usually have a 1/4" jack input and a midi input.. occasionally, an XLR input is supported as well..

it depends on your budget really...
