Problem recording with podxt

I set up my podxt as a sound card using the asio drivers, the problem is that when i try to record anything on cool edit or cubase sx3 i get crack and pops the sound comes and goes , if i try to record a second track it's completely out of sync.
I have a Dell notebook with 2GB on RAM so i don't think that's the problem.
Thanks for your responses guys!

Re: Problem recording with podxt

i doubt this will help, but i noticed while recording with my podxt that sometimes if you bump the usb it'll pop and mess up the gearbox program. Also make sure that in each of the programs you're using the sound is coming straight from the POD, instead of the windows audio mapper thing. I'm no expert, but I tried my best to help

Try what he said, but also give priority to background services over applications in Windows XP or Vista.

Go to "System Properties" » Advanced » under Performance, click Settings » Advanced » select "Background Services" under "Adjust for best performance of".

Hope that helps.

Re: Problem recording with podxt

You might want to create a new hardware profile and shutdown every service you don't need. Once that's done, create a new user, and apply said hardware profile so no unneeded services are running.

This is a good reference point:

This is something that's urked me for a while now. Why Microsoft hasn't figured out a way to allow SCW to shutdown services and processes you don't need when you create a new profile for a DAW is beyond me. They should do the same thing with Vista and server 2008 so that when you're installing their os for a DAW, it knows that you'll never need things like wuau services, firewall, etc.

Re: Problem recording with podxt

you know what i have done that has helped me also while working in pro tools? i disable the nic card. there are issues until i do that, regardless of what pc i have recorded with. the less resources the pc has to dish out for other things, the better. turn off screen savers, set the pc for everything they mentioned above, and you should be fine. also, disable the serial and parallel ports too. more than likely you're not using them anyway. don't forget to defrag your drives and of course use a different drive to record to than what your recording program is on. good luck.
