Protools audio interface

I'm sure this question has been answered about a million times in this forum, but will protools only work with digidesign hardware?

The reason I ask is because i currently have a Mbox 2 which is great, but has limited mic inputs (two). I was thinking about buying a non-digidesign audio interface with lots of mic inputs (up to eight), but it's no point if protools wont accept it.

Are there any digidesign audio interfaces that offers more inputs or do I have to buy Cubase to choose an alternative audio inerface?

Re: Protools audio interface

http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...28&langid=100&

the 2 left circles in the middle show the available hardware to run PT LE

the 3rd circle is M-powered..an even more scaled back version of PT..
and there is a list of compatable hardware for it.
But M-powered is the only version of PT you actually have to buy.

All other versions of PT come free with supported hardware..including PT HD

Re: Protools audio interface

I just bought a 003 Factory console and
DV toolkit 2

It should be here wed's.
Im scaling back my home studio even more so I figured this was the way to go, since I need to import avid/final cut files, we'll see how it works out.

I've been a Nuendo user for years and always hated that Protools won
the war as far as compatablity between software and studios, when I felt
there were better products out there.

In the end thats exactly why they got me. Compatablity.

Re: Protools audio interface

Yeah, 002 and 003 are the better Digidesign interfaces and can go up to 18 inputs with the right add-ons. The 002 can be modified (black lion Audio) to sound very good. An 8 channel lightpipe preamp adds 8 inputs to the stock 4 mic/line inputs and 4 line only inputs. 2 more can be done with a SPDIF preamp.
