Question about "Korg D3200 Multitrack Recorder"

Courtney,

I've spent hours today trying to decide which multi-track recorder I want. Are you still happy with the D3200? I'm between that and the Tascam 2488neo, the Roland VS1824CD or VS2480 and the Yamaha AW16G. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks, J R

Re: Question about "Korg D3200 Multitrack Recorder"

I've been using a 2480 to record our band with good results.Being able to plug in a computer monitor is a huge bonus for a standalone.Kind of limited with plugins but still a solid unit.

Yea, still very happy. I wouldn't hesitate buying it again.

You mention some other units that I'm not familiar with. You need to decide what features are most important. For me 32 tracks really grabbed my interest as well as being a high quality audio unit.

Which one you leaning towards?

Re: Question about "Korg D3200 Multitrack Recorder"

Thanks for your responses, and Happy New Year from Nashville, TN. I'm coming from the "buttons and knobs" generation into the digital age. I'm just so used to all the in/out features on the Tascam 246 I've been using since 1985, especially the ability to insert outboard gear into EVERY channel independently. I'm disappointed in the apparent choices for digital recorders available today. And not having a lot of money to play around with, I'm struggling to determine which unit provides the most flexibility. I'm not able or interested in using a computer to record; guess I'm too old school.

J R

Me too. This unit is a mix of both worlds. You get digital tools with some analog interfaces, but I'm sure all the units you have listed are like that. I too like recording away from the computer. You should check them out in person if you can and get someone to give a tour of them.

Re: Question about "Korg D3200 Multitrack Recorder"

I cant believe someone else in this world uses a D3200. I had one early on in my recording phase.

I believe its a great tool, but by far the worst learning curve ive ever encountered. The ability to only be able to use that tiny screen and not have an external mouse is pretty poor. All the menus of how to do things were buried as well.

Also i didnt find it really benefical that the only way to get music off of the thing was to first master the song in real time, then burn it to a cd. It made demos and other tasks that are simple and easy through a DAW, painstaking and relentless.

Regardless, if you dont have access to a computer with a decent processor and RAM, I guess its an alright choice.
