questions regarding recording at home in my computer

Hi. I've been planning to record using my computer. Possibly on my mac laptop and my regular PC. From what I could figure I would need a firewire interface, a Shure sm57, and software to arrange the music.

I am torn in which the hardware recording interfaces to buy. I was looking at a few: the Motu 828mk2, m-audio 410 and m-audio 1814. These seemed to be loaded with features that will keep me satisfied for a while. I'm looking for an external one since I would want to use my laptop as well. Can you tell me in your experience the difference between these interfaces? cons and pros? Any other suggestions besides these? Maybe something cheaper but still comparable ones.

Also, can you suggest anything that I may have overlooked in my planned recording studio? thanks.

The Motu is pretty much the best available FW interface around, it's very much on par or surpases the Protools Digi002.

It depends on your limitations (size and money) the M audios are good, cheaper and smaller, but not as good as the Motu.
