I've pretty much got my recording set-up up and running, Imac G5 - Cubase SX3 - Line 6 Toneport (tweaked some pretty good sounds) so now i'm wondering how i can if possible record 2 or more instruments simutanuosly on Cubase (Toneport has 1 instrument input and 1 mic input), will i need a mixer with more inputs .. if so what can you reccomend on a tightish buget that will do the job? Cheers

Try looking at some firewire interfaces. You can get 8 inputs. You can mix "in the box" You can also get a cheap 12 channell mixer.

The mixer in cubase is all you need, so yea, look for a firewire interface with mic pres.

sorry could you explain what a firewire interface is and what it does? If i got a cheap channel mixer, would i be able to use it in co-existence with the cubase mixer so it controls it?

The firewire interface is this - Interface, which is a device that has the inputs for mics ect so that you can connect to your pc - through firewire, which is a type of connection, as is USB a type of connection.

You can use a mixer, again, would need a firewire interface built into it(dont bother with USB). But another mixer is just going to confuse you. The cubase mixer is all you need.

I am just wondering why would you want to record 2 or more tracks at one time?

Why wouldn't he? Many people record many tracks at a time.

It's called multitracking.
