Recording directly into a sound card
I have a Nomad 45 amp with a recording output, and was wondering what kind of equipment you use to record directly into your computer/sound card. Would I be able to use something like this?
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...121-106&DEPA=0
or this?
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...121-115&depa=0
Thanks

Yes either of those cards would do a great job.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
Okay, but the first one doesn't look like it has an input that would accommodate a guitar cable. Would the second card be a wiser choice?

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
The first one has that breakout package, so it may. In any case, an adapter to do the job would only be a few bucks. I'm with Rotti; either should work well.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
What sort of adaptor? One that converts the large jack into a small, typically headphone, sized one?

I'm prety sure that card has rca type inputs and outputs. Either way it's not a problem. There are adapters for every possible situation.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
The 1010 has (balanced) 1/4" jacks, while the 1010LT has (unbalanced) RCA jacks.
I use two 1010LT's in my system, so I had to go to radio shack and clean them out of $3 1/4" -> RCA adapters. Problem solved.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
Went to the store today and I bought this:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...102-164&depa=0
They didn't have the two I mentioned above but this card seems like it will do the job.
Thanks for the info everyone.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
Thats more of a gaming card than a recording card. A lot of people will tell you it's not good for recording, but it will work. As long as it has asio drivers you will get good performance from all the recording apps.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
I've have the Delta 44 for a few years and it still rocks. It doesn't have mic-preamps but the I/O's are line level so it should take the Nomad's output without any conversion. Don't waste your money on a gamer's card as they aren't designed for recording. Lots of reasons for that but let's just say don't bother with them.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
A Nomad-45's recording out (oh, I'm a near-religious devotee of that amp, by the way), while useable, isn't THAT good. Especially since it'll give you very useable tones at low volumes, it's definitely worth your while to grab a mic and mic the thing up.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
Seems like I can't turn the volume up too high when the amp is plugged straight into the card. It's too much and causes horrible static. Anyway to fix this? I'm a newbie when it comes to recording.
What's this about mic preamps?
Thanks

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
The 'line input' is where you want to be connected and not the 'mic input.' If that's already set, then you can't do much about it other than reduce the volume of the amp. You also bought the wrong card for recording although you could get away with it.

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
I realize I didn't buy the right card (I hate being compulsive) but whenever I plug it in the line in jack it only records in mono while the mic in records in stereo. How do I record in stereo using the line in jack?

Re: Recording directly into a sound card
Your amp isn't stereo, so you can't record it in stereo. Just fix it with the recording software you're using
