Recording Guitar to PC via LIGHTSNAkE Latency issues plus more help !!!

Hi all

I recently purchased a USB LIGHTSNAKE from http://www.soundtech.com/

I am able to plugit in to the laptop and can hear my guitar. But there is a latency. and its enough to make recording impossible.

I used to record direct into a line in on my soundcard, but I am trying to work it out on my laptop which has no line in. I assume my soundcard in my PC has a more powerfull soundcard, which may be better for latency, But I cant magine my Laptop cant be used for recording... Its a newish laptop

Laptop stats
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU p8600 2.40 GHz
4GB RAM
Windows7 32 bit
Asio drivers etc...

I will be reviewing some pedals soon for jemsite and want to be able to record them properly.

I own a Boss gt-10 which has usb support for recording, but that wont help me record specific pedals.

I was wondering how you guys record to the PC... what you use, and if anyone has had experience with the lightsnake

Cheers !!

I used to run my podxt as a soundcard (yes I know ) and would get terrible latency unless I set it as my main recording and playback device and use the headphone jack on the pod itself.

I am now using an E-MU 0202 usb interface ( http://www.emu.com/products/product....&product=15186 ) . And it has a direct monitor switch which basically circumvents the pc for playback, but still uses the signal for recording.

i use a FX ultra, before i used a apogee one which worked great, for mic'ed stuff as well as the usual plugs. Used with Logic Pro and Ableton live

Have you tried ASIO4all ? http://www.asio4all.com/

What OS are you running? How many services are running on the machine? What programs are running in the background? If this is your main computer, it might be advantageous to create a separate hardware profile for when you record and tweak the system for performance, so that you can have more resources which may help you lower your latency.
