Recording question for newbie

So im probably getting an iMac with Leopard. Now im not a huge fan of garage band because of the minimal **** they have on it, and like how unoriginal songs can be after like a year. So I was thinking of riff works because im a total newb at recording and they seemed pretty good. I know how to but I dont have a mic and dont have time to do all that ****. Any experiances with riff works?

Riff Works is pretty damned easy to use but, as I've heard others say, it's so unconventionally laid out from what a lot of other programs use (the more standard layout) that if you get really used to Riff Works then move on to something else, like CubeBase, it's like starting from scratch again.

But if you just want an easy to use program for beginning with then yeah, it's good. You can down load the demo from the web site to test it out before you buy.

oh so its pretty much so easy that its not like anything else so why even bother trying it when ur not going to learn anything, if thats what u want. It comes with a plug in thing where I can plug my guitar into my computer. Would that work for every recording product?

Well, check me if I'm wrong, but in addition to coming with clips and samples and what not, GarageBand is still a full-featured multitrack recorder, right? So, if you import your own drum loops or drum tracks and record your own gutiars and bass, then it won't sound any less "original" than any other editor?

I mean, GarageBand isn't the most robust recording platform out there, but if you're looking to learn on a budget, "free" is tough to beat. Save your cash for a Shure SM57 and a mic stand, and go with Garage Band.

I saw a video for the new garage band a ****, and the guy just had a plug and a guitar, is it possible he just plugged his guitar in to something and that thing goes into his computer?
