When I built my home studio almost 3 years ago, I couldn't find any good resources on the Net. Given that, I ended up improvising with my studio setup. When I started looking into "genuine" recording studio furniture, I found it cost about 3x what similar furniture did at Office Depot. So, needless to say, my studio looks somewhat more like a home office than recording studio, but the setup has worked really well so far.

Although you can't see it in the picture, there's a longer desk partition that goes off to the right that has 2 keyboards on it. When recording, I usually put my amp under the desk and mic it. End result--everything is within arm's reach.

I put a hollow core door(40.00) across 2 sawhorses(30.00) and put my effects racks on the right and left sides with monitors on top.The roland 2480 is in the middle with the computer monitor on a little shelf behind it.Doesn't look fancy, but is very functional, also very easy to move if I decide to rearrange.I put some hooks on the edge of the door for headphones.Add a nice fancy hefty bag dust cover and cup holders(screwed to the side of the door) and I had money left to buy another guitar. If I get tired of the color,a little designer housepaint and I have a new look.

WOW, that looks really cool "bduersch"...

I was thinking about just getting something from IKEA... But then I like it tidy and clean. I guess it has to be studiofurniture, even if it's just a 10HE rackspace and a desk.

Well, anyone else got any ideas for me?!

I did the same sort of thing, but went to Best Buy...I found a desk setup for office work, and drilled new holes where you assemble the sides of the cabinets, so that it a was a 19 inch width. Then I bought rack rails and mounted them there. So, what was a pair of 17" storage areas for videos and such, now is 2 five-space racks. And it fits nicely in the corner of my room. The "studio furniture" stuff (like Omnirax) often is bent or straight and long...too awkward and space-consuming for anyone's real home...lol

I know that Argossy makes console desks where you can integrate any outboard gear. But I think that this may not be what you are looking for. Go buy a MIX magazine and at the end, in the classified section, there are lots of adds for studio furnishings.

I know that at our studio, we hand made most of the furniture (Chief engineer is quite the carpenter!!!)

Good luck

Cool site, from basic desk in a bedrom to full-blown pro-type studio designs. Great ideas for fitting furniture to room sizes, and vice-versa. Hope it helps- if not, there are more out there- google and a few free nights- lol nikki
