Roland digital recorders

I am looking for a good mid-level 16-track digital recorder, and have been impressed by the Roland V-series. One thing I'm concerned about is the ability of HDD-based units to be able to record multiple tracks simultaneously. Most recording that I would be doing with my band would involve at least six drum mics, two guitar inputs (hopefully stereo for each), a bass and two vocal tracks. I know that some of the older, slower models can only record 4 or 8 tracks at once. I'm trying not to spend more than $1500. Is there a good unit from Roland, Fostex, Tascam, et al. that can record on at least 8 tracks at once for around that price? New or gently used, I don't really care. Thanks!

I use a Korg D-1600 that I picked up new a couple years ago, but yes I am limited to 8 tracks at once. I only use it for personal use so it really doesn't pose a problem for me. I bought the unit for just over $1000 on close out. So they are out there for that price range. Best of luck.

i have a vs 1680. It works great across the board, whether I'm recording a band, or piecing together music by myself.
