Re: Satriani Mic Package any good?

Darin,

I really enjoyed reading this article in my office the other day:

http://emusician.com/hardware/emusic_budget_mics_big/

Also check this page out, there are some sound clip comparisons of 6 different mics with audio clips. The site is pretty good and it provides an extensive review and clips of all mics.

I am all for saving cash but after doing a side by side comparison, I would by an MXL 2001 before an SM57(the clear loser in my test).

Spend $300 on a Sure KSM27 and record everything with it. You wont find a better way to make everything sit right in the mix for the money.

Re: Satriani Mic Package any good?

There's no such a thing as good or bad mics.
Everybody listen to things in a different way.
Some people record with a pod and some,when listening,think it's a rectifier.Some record with a rectifier and people think it's a pod.
So if a mic is good or bad ONLY your ears could tell cause obviously you have your own tastes about wich sound is good and wich is bad.
We can talk about parts quality but about audio, there's no such a thing as good and bad,it depends on tastes of the listener.
Some people love sm57 and some hate it,so is it a good or bad mic?
It depends on tastes of the listener.
All major labels have drum kits wich is a stupid thing cause mics doesn't know what they're recording,I mean a kickdrum mic can record vocals too,it depends on its expecifications. The majority of mics are about 20hz to 20 khz so they all can record almost anything. But people think -Oh I HAVE to buy a kick mic to record my kick = nonsense.Any mic could record it.
So if you want a cheap mic wich you could use with probably everything=sm57.
